October 26, 2013 Centreville Varsity Game Recap
After starting the season with three straight victories and then losing three straight games after that, the Hartford Indians may have looked deflated on the outside, but on the inside, the fire still burned. After a huge victory over rival Decatur and then last week at Marcellus, the Indians gave themselves an opportunity at a season long goal — making the playoffs for the 19th time in school history and for the eighth time in nine years.

After scoring the biggest victory of the season “on the road” last week against Decatur, the Hartford Indian Varsity football team went into Friday nights game at Marcellus looking to not lapse in judgment or discipline; to keep its focus forward and not to look back. After all, in sports, it is easy after a big victory like Decatur was for Hartford for a team to dwell on that win and not concentrate on the next opponent.

The Hartford Indian Varsity football team has seen its share of ups and downs this season. They scored three wins to start the season. And just as quickly as the Indians started 3-0, their season was on the brink. Three losses later, the Indians sat at 3-3 entering Friday nights contest with Decatur knowing all too well if they did not win Friday night, the season would likely be over in two weeks time.

The Hartford Indian Varsity football team started out the 2013 season with three convincing victories over Martin, Gobles and Fennville. Since then, the Indians had scored just 31 points in two losses at Saugatuck and rival Watervliet. On Friday night, Hartford looked to get on the winning track once again, hosting Lawton on Hartford’s biggest night of the season, Homecoming.

The Junior Varsity Indian football team returned to the road after two straight home games versus Saugatuck and Watervliet on Thursday night, when they traveled to Lawton to take on the Blue Devils, who have given the Junior Varsity Indians trouble over the past several seasons. After a rough game against Watervliet in the previous week, which saw the Indians lose their first game of the season, they looked to rebound with a major stepping stone victory over a top calibier Southwestern Athletic Conference South Division team.

The Hartford Indian Varsity football entered conference play on Friday night, traveling to Watervliet, looking for their fourth win of the season, first win of the conference divisional season and first win in three years over the rival Panthers. The Panthers, coming in 4-0, had been playing solid football all year coming into the game and Hartford knew it would have to play the perfect game to be in contention.

The Junior Varsity Indian football team hosted their second consecutive home game, third home game of the season and the first Southwestern Athletic Conference South Division game of the season last Thursday night, as they hosted the Watervliet Panthers in a rivalry game that featured two teams that came into the game undefeated on the season.

The Hartford Indian Varsity football team went into play on Friday night in Saugatuck trying to make it a clean sweep of the Southwestern Athletic Conference North Division once again this year. They went in knowing they would be facing their toughest competition to date in Saugatuck, whom at 2-1, was coming off a tough loss at Decatur, where they let a halftime lead slip away.

The Junior Varsity Indian football team hosted their second home game of the season and the final game before the start of Southwestern Athletic Conference South Division play last Thursday evening, as they hosted the Saugatuck Indians at Indian Stadium. The two teams came into the game not having faced each other since the 2008 season.

The Hartford Indian Varsity football team started out the 2013 season with two big, impressive victories over Martin and Gobles, with the Indians scoring 94 points on offense in the two victories. They expected the schedule to grow tougher as the season went on. Friday night, Fennville became the Indians biggest test yet to date and a reminder that at the end of the day on the field, defense wins games — defenses win championships.

October 19, 2012: After crunching their ticket to the playoffs last week with a win against Marcellus, the Hartford Indians host the Lawrence Tigers in a game moved from Lawrence to Hartford after a power outage. The power was on in Hartford, both the lights and the Varsity football team, who scooted out to a big, 49-7 lead by halftime in a 56-7 victory over the rival Tigers to finish 7-2.
October 29, 1993: The 1993 Hartford Indians, currently 8-0 on the season, take on the rival Decatur Raiders in the final game of the 1993 regular season. Hartford, who had pitched seven shutouts in eight games, put in on the rival Raiders. Using the veer offense to its advantage, Hartford scored under their season average, but shut Decatur out, 36-0, setting themselves up for a playoff run at 9-0.
