The Indians had a point to prove last Friday night at home against Martin.
62 points later, I think the 2011 version of the Hartford Indians certainly proved a point.
The Indians take on New Buffalo in game two of the 2011 season this Friday night, looking to defeat a team that was a foe in the Indians days of the Red Arrow Conference. This will be the first meeting for the two teams since the Indians left the Southwestern Athletic Conference after the 2002-2003 school year. It is a game I have dubbed the "Casino Royale", as both towns are home to Four Winds Casinos in their respective community.
TEAMS AT A GLANCE

Record: 0-1 1-0
Win %: .000 1.000
Scored: 41 62
Allowed: 50 0
Streak: Lost 1 Won 1
The Indians are 1-0 after a dominant 62-0 victory over Martin, which saw the Indians out gain the Clippers by a 414-40 margin, all of which was on the ground.
Leaders for the Indians included David Mireles, a junior who ran for 150 yards on seven carries and Gareth MacMillan ran for 102 yards on seven carries. The Indians had six different rushers score last game.
The Indians defense was led by John Scherer and his seven tackles, with Tony Kucharski adding seven. The Indians forced two turnovers, both on interceptions by Casper Aviles and David Mireles. It was a total
team performance in the victory over Martin.
The Indians next foe comes in the form of the New Buffalo Bison, who are 0-1 after a week one loss to SAC North Division foe Bloomingdale, whom beat the Bison 50-41 in a shootout in New Buffalo last Friday. Bloomingdale will play the Indians next week, so a lot of learning from that game went into preparation this week.
Leading the Bison will be the three leading rushers from 2010, Kevin Levine, Jimmy Mullen and Kyle Levine. Kevin Levine had 792 yards last fall, while Mullen added 587 and Kyle Levine added 391. That will be the strength of the Bison on offense, but junior quarterback Aaron Buckner is back. He was a second string quarterback who through for 111 yards in backup playing time.
Leading the defense will be Rodger Thompson, who had 55 tackles last season.
The Bison are said to have a hard working junior and senior class this season and are expected to be the favorite to win the five-team Red Arrow Conference this year.
This Friday should be a great game for the rushing attack, so come on out and enjoy a good game while supporting your Hartford Indians!

NOTES: New Buffalo does not have a Junior Varsity team, much like Martin last week. The Indian Junior Varsity team does have a game this Wednesday at Niles against the Brandywine Bobcats. This will be the first Junior Varsity Hartford-Brandywine game ever. The Indians are 1-0 after last weeks 30-14 win over Gobles. New Buffalo is a former rival of Hartford, going back to 2002 in the Red Arrow Conference, which is the last meeting, a 64-20 Hartford victory. The weather forecast looks dry, then wet, Friday night, with rain moving in near the end of the game. Temperatures will be rather warm, though, around 80 at game time, dropping to the mid-to-upper 70's by the end of the game. Chance of rain is around 30-to-40 percent Friday night.
