Well, Hartford, we have
been down this boat before. Most recently, it occurred in 2009. This
time, the Indians must right the ship or the ship may sink for the
playoff chances of the Indians.
Hopefully, they will.
Friday night in Marcellus, the Indians will look to win for the
first time in three games and win their first divisional game within
the Southwestern Athletic Conference South Division against the host
Wildcats. The kickoff for the seventh game of the 2011 season will
commence at 7:00 PM at Marcellus Stadium. |

The Indians come into the game this week at 4-2 overall and
0-2 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference South Division
after losing another slobber-knocker 12-7 game versus
Decatur last Friday. The entire games scoring occurred in
the second quarter, the deciding touchdown coming off of an
Indian fumble deep inside Indian territory.
The Indians were led by the rushing column, with David Mireles
scoring 139 yards on eighteen carries. Standout Gareth
MacMillan was held to forty yards on eighteen carries, while
Sergio Perez added a rushing touchdown, along with 91
receiving yards and three catches. |
|
The defense was strong all
night, but twice allowed rushing touchdowns, including one deep in
the red zone, but also showed promise, stopping Decatur numerous
times on three-and-outs, plus forcing a fumble at the Indians one
yard line.
The defense was led by the fourteen tackles of the leading tackler
on the Indians team, Tony Kucharski, while seniors John Scherer and
Jared Meachum added ten tackles.
The Indians next conference opponent stands Marcellus. The Wildcats
are coming into Friday nights game off of a 41-12 loss to Lawton
last Friday. The Wildcats have lost three straight games after
starting the season 2-1 overall.
The Wildcats, offensively, are usually very run dominant. No
individual Marcellus stats were made available, but they have put up
1,200 yards of rushing offense, while only passing for 101 yards.
The Wildcats, defensively, have given up 1,262 yards of total
defense this season.
The Indians will need the road support of the crowd this week. It
is a HUGE game with conference and postseason implications. Come on
out and cheer loud and support the Indians this week!
NOTES: The Indian Junior Varsity team has a BYE week this
week, as Marcellus does not field a Junior Varsity squad. Last weeks
Junior Varsity game that was rained out in Decatur will be played
next Thursday, October 13th at 6:00 PM in Decatur. Hartford is 7-1
in the previous eight games against Marcellus, with the Wildcats
only victory in the series coming in 2009, when they won 47-27 over
the Indians in Marcellus. It was the dagger in the Indians playoff
chances that year, when Hartford went 4-5 after starting 4-0. Friday
night is "Homecoming" in Marcellus, the third straight time Hartford
has been the Homecoming game for Marcellus. The weather forecast for
Friday looks PICTURE PERFECT for the game. After last weeks cool
temperatures and high winds, this week looks about ten-to-fifteen
degrees warmer. It will be sunny and in the low sixties at game
time, with temperatures cooling to around sixty by the end of the
game. The chance of rain is basically zero as of this publication. |
