Dave Janicki enters his sixth season as the
Hartford Indian Varsity Football Head Coach,
where he has garnered an 37-13 record as head coach
and an 18-7 record in South Division play.
In 2010, Janicki's Indians rebounded from a dismal 4-5 season in
2009 by winning eight games, finishing 8-1
overall and 4-1 in conference play. The
Indians only loss came to eventual division
champion Lawton. The Indians outscored
opponents by an 375-164 margin in games
during the campaign. Despite the eight wins,
the Indians were eliminated in the first
round of the playoffs for the third straight
playoff appearance by Fennville, whom the
Indians beat in week four during the regular
season. The Indians, however, put thirteen
on All-Conference teams and Shayne Carlson
and Juan Perez were given Honorable Mention
All-State honors.
In 2009, Janicki's Indians got off to a hot start, beginning
the season 4-0 with wins over Bloomingdale,
Martin, Gobles and Fennville, reaching #3 in
the state in the initial Division Six poll. However,
the Indians suffered injuries, including
season ending injuries to key players and
the Indians lost the final five games of the
season in conference play. The Indians
did, however, get five players on the
Southwestern Athletic Conference
All-Conference team, as well as kicker Shane
Sullivan earning first-team All-State
honors.
In 2008, the Indians enjoyed an outstanding season, finishing with
a perfect 9-0 regular season record, a South
Division Southwestern Athletic Conference
title and a birth in the playoffs. As in the
previous season, the Indians were upset, for
the second year in succession, by the 8-1
Constantine Falcons on the road in week one
of the postseason. Hartford was the only 9-0
team to take to the road in week one of the
playoffs. The Indians finished #7 in the Associated Press
poll for Division Seven. Janicki received Regional Coach of the Year honors
for the second straight year, scored a dozen
All-Conference players and George Allen
earned All-State honors as well at the
running back position.
2007 was a season to remember for Hartford, as they had
another solid season, scoring an 8-2 mark
and a perfect 5-0 South Division conference
record. In the final season of conference crossover
matchups, Hartford scored an overall
conference title with a convincing 42-14
victory over Gobles, giving Hartford its
second conference overall title. In addition to the
8-2 record, the Indians finished #9 in the
Associated Press poll in Division Seven. The Indians,
however, were finished in week one of the
playoffs with a loss at Constantine by a
33-28 score.
2006 began the Janicki era and it was immediately made aware that
the change of coaches would see success on
the field. The Indians improved by three in
the win total, to eight wins and finished
4-1 in the South Division, enough for a
three way tie with Lawton and Decatur for
the division title. The Indians, also, won
their first playoff game in four seasons
with a win at upstart Wyoming Lee in round
one of the playoffs. The Indian season came
to a close with a 27-0 loss to Montague in
the playoff district finals.
Prior to coming to Hartford, Janicki was
the head football coach at Niles High
School, where he led the Vikings from the
doldrums to playoff contenders. In six
seasons, he secured a 29-29 mark and took
the Vikings to the playoffs for three
straight years (2001-2003), where he put
Niles on the football map with a victory in
the playoffs over Sturgis.
He also coached in Indiana, his home state, where he had stints as
a graduate assistant at Ball State
University for one year, five years as the
head football coach at Blackford High School
and as the quarterbacks and running backs
coach at Penn High School in Mishawaka, a
school best known for six consecutive state
titles and 89 straight victories.
Janicki is a graduate of Indiana University at South Bend. He is
the current Principal at Hartford High
School. He makes his home in Bangor and has
twin children, Bo and Jasmin. |
