Coach Janicki

David Janicki just finished his second season as the head coach of the Hartford Indian Varsity Football Team. His current record with the Indians is 16-5.
During his second season with the team in 2007, Janicki led the Indians to greater heights and success. His Indian team finished 8-2 on the year and 5-0 within the Southwestern Athletic Conference South Division. And on October 19, 2007, Janicki accomplished his biggest goal to date: a Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship. The Indians defeated Gobles 42-14, bringing Hartford its second SAC title in five years. Janicki led the Indians to the playoffs for the third straight year, but unfortunately, the Indians lost in Round one to Constantine. But, for the first time since 2002, the Indians finished the regular season ranked in the state, finishing #9 in the final Division 7 poll.
In his first season with Hartford, Janicki led his team to an 8-3 mark and a 4-1 record in the Southwestern Athletic Conference's South Division. That allowed the team to garner a South Division title, winning that title after a huge win over Decatur in Game 8. They also, for the first time since 2002, won a playoff game, winning over Wyoming Lee 20-12. Also, during his first season, due to the Indians success, he was able to help Assistant Coach Terry Manning earn all-state Assistant Coaching honors. Manning, a 1982 Hartford graduate, has been coaching at his alma mater for over 20 years.
Janicki came to Hartford in June of 2006 from Niles High School, where he recorded a 29-29 mark with the Vikings over six years. He took the perennial losing team to three straight playoff appearances in 2001, 2002 and 2003, where he put Niles Football on the map with a much hyped upset victory over Sturgis in a Pre-District playoff game in 2003. Before he came to Michigan from Indiana, Janicki spent one year as a graduate assistant coach with Ball State University in Muncie, a five year head coaching stint with Blackford High School and as a quarterback and running backs coach at Mishawaka Penn High School, a school that won six state championships in a row, as well as 89 consecutive games.
Janicki serves as Athletic Director and Social Studies teacher for Hartford. Coach Janicki, a former Indiana resident, now resides in Hartford and has been married to his wife, Janice, for 13 years. They have twin children, son, Bo and daughter, Jasmin.
